Accounts and Admin Manager for DPS Group, Teresa Wills tells us a bit about her role and herself in this month's Q&A.
This month we're profiling Teresa Wills, who works in our admin and finance team at DPS Group.
1. Tell us about your role with DPS Group.
I am the Accounts and Admin Manager for DPS Group, focusing on our sales & systems divisions. In short I am responsible for the smooth running of all the accounting duties such as debtors, creditors, and all payments to suppliers. I also look after invoicing customers, bank reconciliations, management reports, & payroll. This also includes the administration side of the business.
2. What are the biggest challenges in what you do?
I think the biggest challenge I face on a day to day basis is making sure all my deadlines are met, while juggling various tasks at the same time. Making sure I prioritise
correctly is essential.
3. And the biggest rewards?
Providing up to date accounts, managing cash flow and ensuring money is coming into the business on time are essential to the smooth running of the business and to know that I have a big part in that, and that my work and efforts are appreciated are the biggest rewards for me.
Knowing my work is organised and things are done timeously and correctly gives me great satisfaction.
Working with Martin Brownlee (DPS Group director) challenges me to be better every day. He is always looking for better ways to doing things and it inspires me to do the same. I have learned a great deal from him over the years.
4. Tell us about what you like to do when not at work.
I think by now everyone in our team knows that I love anything techy. There's an app for everything! I'm working on turning my children’s photo albums into a glossy book at the moment!
Knitting is my hobby and I have recently knitted quite a bit as I have a new granddaughter. I really enjoy knitting large cabled throws. Over the last 12 months I’ve knitted something like 3 blankets, and about 12 baby jerseys. I find it very relaxing, especially after a hard day at work.
Reading and watching a good TV series, especially on a driech Scottish day is another favourite thing of mine to do along with going on walks when I can.
I love baking and have brought in a few cakes to the office on occasion. However my college Tony keeps saying that I haven’t done that since joining slimming world and feels like he’s been put on diet too. My favourite cake to bake is my Butternut cake, and have even converted Tammy (a non cake eater ) to like cakes.
5. For those reading this, why work with DPS Group?
The DPS Group is a great place to work for. I've worked in various places including overseas and can honestly say that I enjoy coming into work every day.
The management and my fellow colleagues are very friendly, supportive and caring. Even though we are busy and working hard, we also get to laugh a lot and there is a great atmosphere in the office.
The management, in my case Martin, is always encouraging us to learn more, to think outside the box, reach my goals and develop my career path.
6. Teresa's Top Tip....
Be the best you can be everyday - never give up and always be grateful for what you do have.
